I firmly believe that the lack of quality education has had a detrimental impact on families and communities, especially in Cambodia’s underserved regions. Through SMILE KID International School, we strive to become both a role model and a beacon of hope and compassion—offering inclusive, high-quality educational opportunities for all students, regardless of their abilities or background. At the heart of our work is a simple belief: no child should be deprived of the opportunity to excel in life. Access to world-class education inspires a lifelong love of learning and empowers students to become valuable contributors to their communities and to the world. We are committed to opening life-changing opportunities for children through quality education, while nurturing a culture of compassion and Loves. We believe that education is an asset—one of the most powerful investments an individual can make to improve their life. It is also the most effective tool in the fight against poverty and social exclusion. Our school’s motto proudly reflects this mission: "Providing good education is the best community service through our compassion."
We aim to provide quality and affordable education to all students in our community, while fostering strong values and virtues that support the holistic development of every child. At SMILE KID International School, we are dedicated to building a community of learners within a loving, inclusive, and respectful environment—where discrimination has no place and where every child is valued, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.
We are committed to fostering a welcoming culture for all—embracing diversity and celebrating the unique strengths of each child and family we serve.
In particular, we recognize that every interaction with a person with a disability should be guided by respect, sensitivity, and empathy. The words we use, the attitudes we convey, and the ways we engage with others all have a powerful impact on creating a sense of belonging and dignity. At SMILE KID, we strive to ensure that every member of our community—students, families, teachers, and staff—feels seen, heard, valued, and respected. This is not just our philosophy; it is our daily practice.
Actually, every member of our community deserves to be treated with respect, sensitivity, and empathy. To ensure that we maintain a truly inclusive, Loving, and welcoming environment, we ask that all staff members and volunteers practice the following 5 Key Tips for Disability Etiquette at all times:
1️⃣ Ask Before You Help
- Understand that people with disabilities are independent and capable.
- Always offer help first—assist only if it is needed or requested.
2️⃣ Be Sensitive About Physical Contact
- Avoid touching mobility aids such as wheelchairs, canes, or scooters.
- These devices are an extension of the person’s personal space and must be treated with respect.
3️⃣ Think Before You Speak
- Speak directly to the person with a disability—not through a companion, aide, or interpreter.
- Respect privacy—only discuss a person’s disability when it is necessary and appropriate.
4️⃣ Don’t Assume
- Do not make assumptions about what a person with a disability can or cannot do.
- When in doubt, ask first—let the individual express their own needs, abilities, and preferences.
5️⃣ Respond Graciously to Requests
- If someone requests an adjustment or accommodation, respond with positivity, professionalism, and respect.
- A gracious response helps build trust and fosters a truly inclusive and supportive environment for all.
Lastly, but not the end, by practicing these simple yet powerful tips, we help make SMILE KID International School a place where everyone feels valued, respected, and supported—regardless of ability or background.
Together, we are building a school culture rooted in compassion, dignity, and true inclusion—where every child and every member of our community can thrive.
As we move forward together, let us remain steadfast in our commitment to excellence, compassion, integrity, and embracing diversity. By fostering collaboration and mutual support, we can achieve extraordinary outcomes and continue to uphold SMILE KID International School as a beacon of intellectual leadership, compassion, and groundbreaking innovation.
I am deeply grateful for your ongoing dedication, hard work, and steadfast support. It is a true honor to be part of this exceptional community, and I look forward—with great enthusiasm—to all that we will accomplish together in the days ahead.
Sincerely,
Ms. NGET SOCHEAT
